New Orleans Pecan Pralines

Updated: Aug 5, 2019

As you know, we offer monthly international cooking classes to the community members of Tupelo, MS. However, we have found that there is also a need for American classes. Our international community members benefit from these because they enjoy learning dishes that are popular in their current home.

International community members get hands on experience with making pecan pralines.

We recently had a New Orleans cooking class! We learned how to make shrimp étouffée and pecan pralines. Who doesn't love being immersed in Big Easy culture for an evening?? We wore Mardi Gras beads and had a blast making these festive recipes. Today, we are sharing the method for making Pecan Pralines! Enjoy!

Pecan Pralines

Ingredients:

1 cup heavy whipping cream

1 lb light brown sugar

2 cup pecan halves

2 Tbsp room temperature margarine

Directions:

Mix 1 cup heavy whipping cream and 1 lb light brown sugar.

Microwave on high for 13 minutes.

Quickly add 2 Tbsp of room temperature margarine and 2 cups pecans.

Stir to mix.

Drop by Tbsp onto wax paper.

Allow to cool until praline lifts easily.

Community members, Christie Thieriot and Sarah Barowka share their New Orleans heritage with us over Shrimp Étouffée and Pecan Pralines!
